Bullying/Violence

Bullying is the constant physical or verbal attacks on someone else and can occur when a person needs to feel in control and who needs to seek power over others. There are several ways that “bullies” can attempt to gain this “control” over others, and they include: Physical bullying, verbal bullying, and “rough-housing.”

Physical Bullying- Physical bullying occurs when one resorts to physical contact such as: kicking, punching, stealing or damaging property.

Verbal Bullying- Verbal bullying occurs when one resorts to humiliating someone else with words such as: name calling, teasing, or insulting someone

“Rough-Housing”- Rough-housing can occur when a bully physically engages another child or teen against their will.

Violence- Violence occurs when one exerts aggressive physical force in an attempt to injure or abuse others. If you ever hear someone talking about violence in school, or you see a gun or any other weapon at school capable of injuring others, it is important that you inform an adult (teacher or counselor) immediately. This will ensure that you will stay safe and that no one else is injured.

What you can do:

  1. Understand that it’s not your fault when someone is bullying you
  2. Talk to someone you can trust, an adult, and inform them of the bullying
  3. Understand that bullies usually feel bad about themselves. While it may seem appropriate to stand up to them, try not to get angry or let them provoke you.
  4. Report all acts of violence immediately
